WHAT IS PROJECT MANAGEMENT?
What does success look like?
For those who are unfamiliar with project management, a good project management service essentially creates a structure and framework for MANAGAGING CHANGE successfully, ensuring that certain identified outcomes are achieved. Typically these are:
quality standards to be achieved
team member accountabilities
project timeline for deliverables
communication and decision-making protocol
risk and budget management
The delivery team on a building project would normally include Architects, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, and other specialist consultants or client representatives.
It is the role of the Project Manager to provide effective leadership to the delivery team, which often involves clearing obstacles to their progress. The Project Manager is the primary point of liaison with the client, and the best placed to assist the client to make decisions timeously, avoiding delaying the delivery team once the project gets going. This can be a tough role at times, especially where clients are new to project leadership.
Most project managers in New Zealand are certified through international project management bodies, typically PMP (USA) or PRINCE2 (UK).
